Vascular Access Clinic Coming to ARH

Vascular Access Clinic Coming to ARH

Exciting news for vascular access at ARH.

In followup to the Nephrologists’ retreat on Vascular Access last night (more details to follow up in future post), the renal team scrambled today to put the finishing touches on plans to create and launch a vascular access clinic at ARH.  Starting next month, Dr. Matt Smith, vascular surgeon, will be seeing patients at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital Renal Unit for vascular access assessment.  Previously, patients needed to travel to Langley to see him.  With the new clinic opening, existing barriers to getting our patients into Dr.  Smith’s office will be reduced.  We hope this will considerably diminish the transportation difficulties faced by our patients. For patients who are frustrated with multiple medical visits, we will often be able to co-ordinate dialysis runs or Kidney Care Centre visits with Vascular Access clinic appointments.

Much appreciation to the ARH team for pulling together all the outstanding details to facilitate an October launch date.  We hope this will be another step forward to improving the number of patients who receive hemodialysis via a proper vascular access and thereby reduce complications, hospitalizations and costs.
