Dr. Terry Leung to start inserting PD catheters at ARH

In the coming weeks and months, I will be working with the renal program leadership and the entire renal team to establish some areas of clinical focus.  One of these areas of focus will be to increase the prevalence of patients on dialysis doing so via independent modalities.

There are numerous challenges to enhancing independent modalities of dialysis (home hemodialysis, home peritoneal dialysis).

One particular challenge for patients living in the Fraser East region is the inability to obtain a PD catheter closer to home – currently, all peritoneal dialysis catheters are inserted at the Royal Columbian Hospital).  Fortunately, Dr. Terry Leung, a surgeon joining the Abbotsford Regional Hospital staff has indicated she is interested in providing this surgical service.  The renal program will be supporting her will clinic facilities and pre-operative assessment in the ARH PD unit.

We are all looking forward to working with Dr. Leung.
